Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection which is transmitted through sexual relations (vaginal sex, anal sex or oral sex) and is caused by a bacterium called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Women who contract the infection may notice changes in their vaginal discharge, pain in the lower abdomen or painful urination. In men, it is more common to notice a burning sensation when urinating or a discharge from the penis. However, for both sexes, there may be no symptoms whatsoever. The treatment is very simple, however if it goes untreated it can cause health problems later on.
